Refund of Contributions

Refund Eligibility

Employee’s contributions to the plan and the interest that their contributions have earned can only be refunded if the employee has become separated from the Authority. Contributions made by the Chicago Transit Authority to the Pension Plan are not refundable.

Forms of Separation:

  • Resignations
  • Discharges
  • Death


How to Apply

Option 1 - Call Your Pension Representative for an appointment to complete your application at the Pension Plan Office.

Option 2 - Call Your Pension Representative request that a refund application be mailed to your home. Mail completed to the appropriate pension representative.

Option 3 - Complete online application and print it out. Then bring or mail completed application and form to the Pension office.

Individuals who had ten (10) years or more participation in the Pension Plan must complete a vesting waiver form in addition to a refund application.


Supporting Forms and Application


All forms may not be required.

Completed signed forms must be received in the Pension Office no later than the fourteenth (14th) day of the month preceding your month of retirement.  For example, if you wish to retire on June 1st, your completed application must be in the Retirement Plan Office no later than May 14th.
